NECAP Scores, Coaching Assignments On School Committee Agenda Tonight

The 7 p.m. session is expected to cover the recent state testing, updated graduation requirements, appointments to coaching positions at the middle and high schools, and other items.

Tonight's scheduled meeting of the is expected to include two major issues related to student achievement: results from the New England Common Assessment Program, or NECAP, and the newly-updated graduation requirements set by the Rhode Island Department of Education.

According to the agenda released for tonight's session, a number of items introduced during are expected to be revisited, including the appointment of a new middle school girls’ softball coach due to the resignation of Greta Lalli in December.

In advance of the spring sports season, the school committee is also scheduled to consider the reappointment of six high school coaches, including:

  • Stephen DeMeo, Head Baseball Coach
  • Brian Iafrate, Assistant Baseball Coach
  • Jason Corsini, Head Golf Coach
  • David Iannuccilli, Head Girls’ Softball Coach
  • Edward Tutalo, Assistant Girls’ Softball Coach
  • Daniel Mazzulla, Girl’s Outdoor Track Coach

Mazzulla recently announced that this will be his final year as head coach of the girls' basketball team.

  • A presentation by representatives of National Grid for a plan to convert the high school heating system to a more efficient gas-powered system.
  • A proposal by Aspen Development Corporation to create a Student Information System.
  • A request to sign a contract with Ohio Pile Prints to sell official Johnston High School athletic wear and gifts.

Supt. Dr. Bernard DiLullo was also scheduled to present the board with a list of layoffs and nonrenewals for members' consideration; in an e-mail message this afternoon, DiLullo said he expects the items to be tabled until a future meeting.
