Johnston Police reported the following accidents this week: Disoriented driver: A local officer responded to the Burger King on Atwood Avenue on Aug. 26 at 1 pm to find a 94-year-old man behind the wheel of a car that had just struck the restaurant. Ptlm. Mark Bairos reported that the driver, identified as John Capobianco, of Bradley Street, Providence, said his foot slipped off the brake pedal, causing the car to roll into the building. Capobianco appeared to be "mildly disoriented," wrote Bairos, who added that when he asked Capobianco who was President, he replied: "Roosevelt." Johnston Fire and Rescue personnel brought Capobianco to Fatima Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. He was not charged in the accident. Vacant car: …

Johnston Police reported the following accidents this week: DUI, Stolen Plates: On Aug. 18, officers arrested two drivers involved in an accident on Plainfield Street. Ptlm. Joseph McGinn reported that he responded to the scene at 930 Plainfield St., where he found two motorcycles laying in the roadway. Helder Ferreira, the driver of one of the motorcycles, told McGinn that he had been traveling east when the car driven by Paulino Alvarado, of Providence, "abruptly turned left into the side of him." The second motorcycle driver, identified as Daniel DaRosa, said that he turned to avoid Ferreira's motorcycle and "landed in the middle of the roadway," McGinn wrote in his report. When Ptlm. Eleanor Spremulli, of 2 Capri Dr., reportedly pulled out of her street into the path of an oncoming police cruiser.
Johnston Police cited a Capri Drive resident for failing to stop for an emergency vehicle and failing to yield the right of way after her car hit a police cruiser at about 4 p.m. on Oct. 3. Eleanor Spremulli, 76, of 2 Capri Dr., reportedly told police that she didn't see the oncoming police cruiser driven by Sgt. David Alverson before the two vehicles collided. According to police reports, Alverson had the cruiser's lights and sirens on when Spremulli's Toyotal Camry pulled out of her street and into the path of Alverson's car. Alverson had been on the way to investigate a report of a disturbance at Traver Avenue, off Killingly Street. With no time to apply the brakes to his car, Alverson said, he tried to steer away from Spremulli's car. …
