School Board to Choose HR Staffer

The Johnston School Committee is scheduled to meet tonight at 7 pm and select a new Human Resources Coordinator, among other agenda items.

The selection of a new Human Resources Coordinator is among the agenda items for tonight's Johnston School Committee meeting, scheduled for 7 pm at N.A. Ferri Middle School. Committee members have three separate votes scheduled for the appointment, according to the agenda for the public portion of the meeting, which will follow an executive session beginning at 6 pm. First, the board is expected to make the formal appointment; next, members will take a vote on a new contract for the candidate; and finally, the committee is expected to consider a resolution that would provide the new coordinator with all resumes received by the district, with copies given to the school committee secretary. Community Service, AP Courses Among Changes To JHS Curriculum

The Johnston School Committee votes 4-0 to approve changes proposed by Principal Gerald Foley.

Local high school students will have new options in their course of study, beginning with the 2011-12 school year. The school committee on March 8 approved a set of changes to the program of study proposed by Johnston High School Principal Gerald K. Foley. Foley proposed modifications to the curriculum to include three new AP courses, including: AP English literature, AP biology and AP calculus. Additionally, Foley presented a plan for an algebra seminar, which is geared toward ninth-grade students who may have had difficulty with mathematics in eighth-grade.
