Johnston CDBG Applications

The town's applications for federal Community Development Block grant funds.

The attached documents are the Town of Johnston's applications for federal funds under the Community Development Block Grant program. The first is a $258,000 application under the Small Cities funding program, which provides assistance to homeowners who need help in repairing their homes. The second is a Disaster Recovery application that could bring the town up to $2.2 million in federal funds to pay for continued work in response to the March 2010 floods. Om May 9, the town council approved the applications.

Funaro v. Town of Johnston, R.I. Third District Court Case #05-2470

This is the civil rights case brought against the town by Gina and John Funaro in 2005. It was released by Mayor Joseph M. Polisena on March 23, 2011.

The attached document is the lawsuit filed by Gina and John Fusaro in May, 2005, against the Town of Johnston, the Johnston School Department, officers of the Johnston Police Department, and seven girls who bullied the Funaro's daughter between 2001 and 2005. At a press conference held March 23, Mayor Joseph M. Polisena released the suit in announcing that Providence Superior Court had overturned a $4.35 million damages award levied against the town through a default judgment, meaning the administration of the late former Mayor William Macera had not contested the ruling. Warning: This document includes descriptions of injuries suffered by Giavanna Funaro.

Latest School Budget: At 10 a.m. today, we'll be uploading the latest school budget proposal to "Your Government Handbook." This is the town's set of regulations that govern construction and development in Johnston.

The Town of Johnston's Comprehensive Plan is attached. It's the set of regulations that govern construction and development within the town. The document was adopted by the Johnston Town Council on Sept. 29, 2009 and approved by the State of Rhode Island on Nov. 17, 2009.

Pocasset Flood Mitigation Plan

This is the town's application for $2.8 million in federal funds to address flooding concerns near the Pocasset River.

The attached file is the Town of Johnston's application for federal funds to address flooding near the Pocasset River. Under the terms of the application, the federal Natural Resources Conservation Service would provide $1.8 million in funding to purchase properties near the flood areas and preserve the land as open space. NRCS would also pay more than $18 million to improve floodwalls to prevent future overflows, provide $1.9 million for administrative costs, and cover $2.5 million for land rights to properties that would later be cleared of buildings.
