Wind Advisory Added to Winter Storm Warning

Weather Service warns drivers off roads as storm intensifies.

  The National Weather Service has upgraded its Winter Storm Watch for the area to a Winter Storm Warning, adding a Wind Advisory, Hazardous Weather Outlook and Special Weather Statement, the last warning against travel tonight. The NWS reports snow will fall tonight at rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour. Rhode Island is expected to get 4 to 8 inches, but a swath of the state and eastern Massachusetts is expected to get 6 to 12 inches. On Sunday, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., the wind advisory warns of winds from 15 to 25 mph with gusts of up to 50 mph. The strongest gusts are expected between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Downed tree limbs and power outages are possible. The NWS also warns against driving in these conditions, especially for high-profile …

Snow On The Way

Forecasters are predicting snow for Friday night into Saturday.

Rhode Islanders can expect the first substantial snowfall of the season Friday night into Saturday as forecasters are predicting three to six inches of snow. Flakes will begin to fall just after midnight, with the bulk of the snow falling from mid-morning into early afternoon.
