Wind Advisory Issued for Johnston

Heavy rain and high winds are expected to continue throughout the day.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for Johnston and much of the surrounding area through 3 p.m. as high winds and heavy rains are expected to continue through the afternoon.  The strongest winds are forecast for 10 a.m. through 3 p.m. Sustained winds from 15 to 25 mph with gusts of 45 mph are possible during this time, according to the alert. The National Weather Service has also issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook alert for the area, noting rain will continue throughout the day, possibly becoming heavy a times, causing minor urban and poor drainage flooding in some spots.

Wind Advisory Issued For Rhode Island

Hold on to your hat — it's going to stay windy into early Friday morning.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a wind advisory for the entire state until 2 a.m. on Friday. There is also a cold front approaching the area tonight and light rain or showers are expected. [Keep up with the latest forecast on the JohnstonPatch WeatherBug forecast page.]   A wind advisory is issued when winds are forecasted to be 31 to 39 miles per hour or wind gusts will be between 46 and 57 miles per hour. Winds this strong can cause isolated power outages or downed tree limbs. Driving can also be difficult, especially for taller vehicles. Strong Winds Friday Could Cause Power Outages

Wind gusts of up to 50 mph are expected all day, which could knock down tree limbs and cause power outages.

Winds could gust to 50 miles per hour on Friday, taking down small tree limbs and branches that could cause power outages, the National Weather Service (NWS) warned in a statement posted at 4:30 a.m. A wind advisory is in effect from 7 a.m. until midnight on Friday; wind advisories are issued when sustained winds are forecast to be 31 to 39 miles per hour or with gusts ranging between 46 and 57 miles per hour. The NWS said southern New England will see sustained winds blowing 20 to 30 miles per hour to the southwest on Friday, with gusts up to 50 miles per hour.
