Mayor Joseph Polisena announced this morning that Raymond Zinno has already paid $6,500 toward repairing the soccer field he admitted to vandalizing in March.
The two Johnston men who admitted to driving their cars onto two town-owned athletic fields and digging up the turf have agreed to pay $6,500 each toward fixing the damage they caused, Mayor Joseph Polisena announced at a press conference this morning. Raymond Zinno, of of 42 Shore Dr., and Costanzo Caparrelli, of 57 Taylor Rd., 18 at the time of the vandalism, changed their previous not guilty pleas to no contest on Friday to one count each of destruction of public property. Town Solicitor William Conley explained the men confessed to damaging the two fields — one at the town's soccer complex and the other behind the Johnston High School football field — and agreed to pay a total of $13,000 and perform 20 hours each of community service…

Mayor Joseph Polisena said he's planning a press conference on Wednesday to speak about the arrest made in the vandalism case, as well as the warrant issued for a second suspect.
The two suspects in the vandalism of local sports fields apparently returned to one of the fields on the night of Mar. 3 and caused more damage, after town officials alerted police to the deep tire grooves left in the fields by the alleged vandals on Mar. 2. Glenn Carroll, the vice president and competition coordinator for the town's youth soccer league, said during a phone interview Monday night that the surveillance camera at the soccer complex caught the suspects in the act of driving onto the field there in two separate cars on the nights of Mar. 2 and 3.
