Maryann Mosco, of Bingley Terrace, recently pleaded no contest to the charges.
Johnston Police this week reported the arrest of a local woman on misdemeanor charges of serving alcohol to a minor after the juvenile's mother told police that he appeared to be drunk. Maryann Mosco, 47, of Bingley Terrace, pleaded no contest to the charges on Monday, according to online court records. According to police reports, Ptlm. Matthew Leveille and two other officers went to the home of Dawn Conetta on Aug. 18 at about 4 pm, where Conetta told them that when her son returned home a little earlier, "he became ill and began vomiting." Conetta told the officers that her son, who was not identified because he is a juvenile, "admitted to her that he had just consumed alcohol," Leveille wrote. The juvenile said Mosco had bought the …

A state legislator's bill to ban people under 21 years of age from entering alcohol-serving nightclubs is up for a hearing tonight — do you think it will work?
Saying that allowing people under age 21 to go to nightclubs that serve alcohol is "a breeding ground for trouble," State Rep. Joy Hearn (D-Barrington, East Providence) has introduced a bill to stop the practice. In Johnston, town councilors recently voted to revoke the business licenses of Club Bebeto after police officials testified about suspected gang activity and other legal violations — including the case of a 21-year-old bartender serving her 20-year-old brother, a member of the Providence-based Tiny Rascal Gang, and another underage customer. Hearn's bill is scheduled for a hearing by the House Judiciary Committee this afternoon. "I’ve introduced this bill before, but never has this been a more critical problem than it is today …

Police allege that a bartender provided her 20-year-old brother with alcohol, and a Warwick man faces a charge of underage possession of alcohol following a check of Club Bebeto by Johnston Police.
Johnston Police arrested three people on underage drinking-related charges after officers went to Club Bebeto, 31 Greenville Ave., on Mar. 25. Sgt. Joseph Salvador and Ptlmn. Joseph Scichilone and Michael Protano were inside the club doing a routine business check at around 11 p.m. While they were talking with the owner of the club, police dispatch alerted them that a man was lying face down in a neighbor’s yard. Protano reported that the neighbor called police after he saw a man run out of Club Bebeto and try to hide near cinder blocks in the yard. Salvadore and Protano found Ruben Montufar, 20, in the backyard. When asked why he was hiding, Protano reported that Montufar replied: “I’m underage, man. I didn’t want to get caught drinking. …

The local police department is asking neighbors to call in if they suspect underage drinking after the prom tonight.
With the Johnston High School senior prom scheduled for tonight, the Johnston Police Department is again making efforts to ensure a safe night for local teens. Residents who suspect underage drinking can call the main dispatch number, (401) 231-4210. During a recent interview at the police department, Det. Richard Almonte said that, generally, Johnston has few issues with underage drinking — though that's no reason to get complacent. "A lot of other communities have been identified as having alcohol problems with kids — we haven't really had DUI problems with the kids here," Almonte said, adding that in seven years, he can only recall one underage drunk driving case. "I believe one of the best reasons for that is our visibility on the …

Um Ive just recently turned 21 last month, I live in Australia tho, so ive been legally drinking in bars and clubs since 18. I dont think it makes any difference if 18 to 20 year olds are allowed to drink they seem to handle it ok here in Aus. And I really dont feel anymore responsible at 21 than I was 18 :s 18 year olds are adults so they should really be allowed to drink I Believe :)   more ›
