Small Business Saturday is on Nov. 24 this year, two days after Thanksgiving. It is a day for everyone to support the small businesses that their community thrives on. American Express founded the day in 2010 to help small businesses get exposure during the holiday season, when they might be otherwise overlooked. The North Central Chamber of Commerce is offering local shoppers a chance to visit great local businesses and have lunch, all for $10.

Building on the success of this past summer's 'Taste of North Central Rhode Island,' the North Central Chamber of Commerce has organized a shuttle tour of local small businesses on Saturday, Nov. 24. As part of the Chamber's recognition of Small Business Saturday, the organization is offering bus transportation to shops in Johnston, North Scituate, and North Providence, as well as lunch at a local restaurant — all for $10 prepaid. For a second year, FedEx Corp. has committed to giving away $25 “Shop-Small American Express Gift Cards” through Facebook to 40,000. The Commercial Appeal reported that the promotion is to encourage consumers to support local, small independent businesses and is in honor of Small Business Saturday, Nov. 24.
