Every week, we'll take a look at locally-owned eatery.
Homefries Restaurant serves up an impressive three-egg omelette that not only is affordable, it’s sizable. The restaurant is staffed with friendly waitresses who never let my mug run halfway down before warming me up with some freshly-brewed coffee. The restaurant at 10 a.m. was quite busy for a Wednesday, but this did not detract from the prompt and pleasant service. From the menu, for one: The omelette was very light, despite being chock full of ingredients. It was served with deliciously crisp and lightly seasoned home fries, as well as two-pieces of lightly buttered rye toast. Other things to note about Homefries: Total bill: one Western omelette, one cup of coffee $7.66 x 20-percent = $9.19

Breakfast is exciting, especially when a place gets it right. Cookie Lady & Co. definitely gets it right. The prices are almost laughably low — Eggs Benedict, which was my meal of choice, is at least $1.75 less expensive than anywhere else I have ever ordered it. The wallet-friendly prices did not affect the size of the serving. I dined alone and I was hungry, so I ordered pancakes as well. From the menu, for one: *I ordered one pancake, but, Ben -- the cook, does not like making one pancake. He said it “looks boring,” so he made me a descending-in-size stack of three cakes. No extra charge for stylistic flourishes. Other things to note: Total bill for one – eggs benedict, pancakes and coffee: $10.53 + 20-percent tip = $12.64

Sometimes the thought of crispy wontons and egg rolls stir-fry the senses and you can’t help but run over your index of local Chinese eateries to satisfy your craving. Red Ginger helps you get your quick fix of quality Chinese cuisine at a price that is untouchable. At around the height of lunch at 12:30 p.m., the restaurant was fairly empty, but as my other diner and I poured out our tea, more folks began to fill in the booths around us. Two guests, two combination lunch specials: Other important items to mention: Total bill for two -- two combination specials: $12.72 + 20 percent tip = $15.26
