Johnston Man Among Eight Arrested for Child Porn Possession

Rhode Island State Police announced the results of "Operation Iceberg," which charged eight Rhode Islanders with possession of child pornography.

A Johnston man was among eight Rhode Island residents arrested by the state police on child pornography charges Tuesday. Christopher Anderson, 22, of 5 Kimball Ave., Johnston, was arraigned Tuesday on one count each of possession and transfer of child pornography. Col. Steven O'Donnell said in a statement the Computer Crimes Unit/Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force led an undercover operation, called "Operation Iceberg," that identified the eight men, and that follow-up investigation found "[n]umerous images and videos of child pornography" on their computers and digital media. Also arrested were: Two Woonsocket residents were also arrested on active warrants for charges not related to the child pornography arrests, O'Donnell said…

Suspect Threatens to 'Assassinate' State Police

State Police issued a call for help in identifying the caller, who said "the Mexican gangs" were "out to get" state troopers.

Rhode Island State Police Col. Steven O'Donnell is asking for the public's help in identifying a suspect who called the Warren Police Department and threatened State Police officers. According to O'Donnell, the caller contacted the local department on Feb. 8, the day after Benjamin Servideo, 24, of Newport, pleaded guilty to two traffic violations stemming from a fatal car accident in East Greenwich. Rhode Island Atty. Gen. Peter Kilmartin and the state police declined to file criminal charges against Servideo in the accident, which killed Sullynette Sanchez, 23, of Providence. At the time, Sanchez was eight months pregnant. Doctors removed the baby, but he died two weeks later. "State Police officers will be assassinated within the next …

Former Johnston Man Sought For Allegedly Dealing Cocaine, Assaulting Cop

Police are looking for Alan Garcia, 26, who has previous addresses in Cranston, Providence and Johnston.

A man accused of dealing drugs and assaulting a police officer with a dangerous weapon — a car — is wanted by the Rhode Island State Police. Alan Garcia, 26, who has previous addresses in Cranston, Providence and Johnston, is being sought by the State Police and the Rhode Island High Intensity Drug Area Task Force. Garcia has an active warrant out of Providence County Superior Court for violating his probation on a conviction for manufacturing/selling/possession of a controlled substance. Police say Garcia assaulted a police officer with a car and was in possession of cocaine with the intent to deliver and possession of cocaine from 1 ounce to one kilo. State Seeks Sheriff Candidates

The application period is open until Feb. 10.

The Rhode Island Department of Public Safety will begin the recruitment, application and selection process for the 2013 Rhode Island Division of Sheriffs Recruit Training Academy, state police Colonel Steven G. O’Donnell announced Monday. The application period will end on Sunday, Feb., 10.  The Rhode Island Division of Sheriffs is seeking "honest, intelligent, hard-working and dedicated men and women to apply for the 2013 Rhode Island Sheriff’s Training Academy," according to a press release. Alfred “Chippy” Scivola, Jr. was sentenced to 46 months in federal prison for shaking down Providence strip clubs.

Alfred “Chippy” Scivola, Jr., 71, of Johnston, an admitted member of the New England La Cosa Nostra, was sentenced today to 46 months in federal prison for his role in a racketeering and extortion conspiracy to shakedown Providence-area adult entertainment businesses for protection money, the FBI announced Thursday. U.S. District Court Judge William E. Smith also sentenced Scivola to serve three years of probation after his imprisonment. Scivola pleaded guilty on March 3 to conspiracy to participate in a racketeering enterprise. Scivola admitted to a conspiracy with other members of the organized crime syndicate to demand and collect cash protection payments from several adult entertainment businesses in Providence. Hit and Run Johnston Police Officers Derrick Palazzo and Dana Gousie responded to a call regarding a car accident at the intersection of Bishop Hill Road and East Woodhaven Drive on July 6. The accident occurred at 12:46 a.m. When the officers arrived the utility pole on the east side of the intersection was severed from the base and the driver had left the scene, according to the police report. Gousie located part of the car’s silver fender at the scene. About 20 minutes later a caller reported a car parked on the front lawn of 29 Pine Hill Road. The car was located behind a large bush.
