Flu Levels Dip in Rhode Island, But Vaccination Still Important

Early spike in flu cases may not be the last one; officials recommend getting a flu shot. Check out these options in Johnston to get the shot.

As influenza illness levels begin to subside across the state, the Rhode Island Department of Health is remindimg all Rhode Islanders that it is not too late to be vaccinated against influenza. “Although we saw an early spike in influenza cases this flu season, it is important to note that we could see the number of influenza cases rise again before the flu season officially ends in May,” said health department Michael Fine, adding that Rhode Island has seen 769 hospitalizations since the department began tracking confirmed influenza cases on Oct. 1. Flu "Widespread" in Rhode Island, Says Health Dept.

PROVIDENCE – Michael Fine, MD, director of the Rhode Island Department of Health (HEALTH), has issued a Declaration of Widespread Flu Incidence Statewide. Stop & Shop Recalls Bean Salad Over Listeria Concern

The Rhode Island Department of Health issued a warning to consumers this afternoon.

  The Rhode Island Department of Health this afternoon issued a warning to consumers that they should not eat Calico Bean Salad purchased from the salad bar at Stop & Shop Supermarkets between July 18 and July 26, 2012. Stop & Shop has voluntarily recalled the product, following a recall by Costa Fruit & Produce, because it may potentially be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Consumers who purchased Calico Bean Salad from Stop & Shop during this time period should discard any unused product and bring their purchase receipt to the Stop & Shop store from which the product was purchased for a full refund. Flu Shot Clinic Scheduled At JHS

The Rhode Island Health Department is scheduled to administer flu vaccinations to students at staff at Johnston High School on Nov. 15.

Johnston High School is scheduled to host a state Department of Health flu clinic on Tuesday, Nov. 15 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for students, faculty, and staff. According to the Health Department, there is no out-of-pocket charge for a flu vaccination for students. The insurance information of students who have health insurance will be collected, but no student will be turned away for a lack of insurance. Health Dept. Celebrates Local Centers

This week marks 46 years that community health centers have been serving patients in Rhode Island, the RI Health Department reported.

The Rhode Island Department of Health recently announced that the week of August 7-13 marked 46 years that community health centers — including Tri-Town Community Action Agency in Johnston — have been serving patients in Rhode Island.
