Johnston Man Nabbed on DUI Tries to Use 'Get out of Jail Free Card'

Timothy Little claimed that his help in locating the accused assailant in a samurai sword attack gave him a "free one."

  A local man tried to get out of DUI and reckless driving charges by telling officers that he had a "get out of jail free card" because he had told them where to find the suspected assailant in an Aug. 4 samurai sword attack, Johnston Police reported. Timothy Little, 24, of 32 Angell St., is scheduled to appear for a pre-trial hearing on Sept. 14 on the disorderly conduct charge filed by Johnston Police following the Aug. 4 incident. Little is scheduled to appear for arraignment today in Third District Court, Warwick, on misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence, BAC unknown; reckless driving; driving with a suspended license; and disorderly conduct. Johnston Police Charge West Warwick Man with Felony Drug Possession

Keith Falvey, 31, had two ongoing criminal cases at the time of his arrest on Tuesday.

  After responding a report of an abandoned vehicle on Aug. 28, Johnston Police officers filed felony drug possession charges against a West Warwick man who had been awaiting trial in two previous cases. Keith Shalvey, 31, of 4 Sunset Ave., West Warwick, remains held without bail at the Adult Correctional Institutions, Cranston, pending a scheduled Sept. 6 status conference on the two earlier charges. Ptlm. Derick Ofori reported that he and two other officers went to the area of 920 Plainfield St. to investigate a black Ford which had been left unattended in the roadway. Sgt. Steven P. State Troopers Arrest Two from Johnston on DUI-Related Charges

Rhode Island State Police reported the arrests of two Johnston residents in unrelated cases.

  Troopers from the Rhode Island State Police recently made two arrests of Johnston residents, one for driving under the influence and the other for failing to appear at a court hearing on an unrelated DUI charge. On Monday night, state police officers arrested Constance Lima, 44, of 20 Pezzullo St., on an active arrest warrant issued on July 12 by Sixth District Court, Providence. According to online court records, Lima failed to appear for a cost review hearing held July 11. She pleaded no contest on May 18 to one misdemeanor count of driving under the influence brought by State Police; as part of the plea agreement, Associate Judge Anthony Capraro suspended Lima's license for three month and ordered her to pay fines and court costs …

JPD Seeks Leads in Plow Theft

Officers responded to M&S Landscaping on July 7 to investigate a report of a missing snow plow.

  Following the report of a missing snow plow on July 7, Johnston Police are seeking leads in the case. Ptlm. Jeffrey Freyer reported that he went to 40 A St. in Johnston and spoke with Mark Martin, who said that he had last seen the snow plow on July 4. Martin explained that the device, described as a Fischer 8.5-ft. tall V-shaped plow, had been stored on a metal storage rack on the property of M&S Landscaping, Freyer wrote, adding that Martin estimated the value of the plow at $3,000. Other plows and sanders on the metal rack had not been touched, Freyer observed. It Wasn't 'Just a Cigar'

A Johnston man faces drug possession and suspended license charges after a local officer reported seeing him smoking a marijuana cigar on Atwood Avenue.

  Johnston Police charged a local man with one count each of marijuana possession, driving with a suspended license, and driving in possession of drugs following a stop on July 6. Nicholas W. Zorabedian, 19, of 49 Taylor Rd., Johnston, was traveling south on Atwood Avenue when Ptlm. Robert Cardoza saw him smoking what looked like a "marijuana cigar," according to police reports. Cardoza reported that when he approached Zorabedian’s car, he smelled burnt marijuana from inside the vehicle. According to Cardoza's report, Zorabedian told him: “You pulled me over because you saw me smoking weed,” and said that he also had marijuana stashed under the emergency brake in the car. Ptlm. JPD: Woman Had Heroin in Car with Toddler

Local police charged a Smithfield woman with felony drug possession following an accident on Greenville Avenue.

  Johnston Police reported the arrest of a Smithfield woman after her car was involved a single-car accident, and officers found a three-year-old in her vehicle. Jennifer Bonsante, 32, of 954 Greenville Ave., Smithfield, faces one felony count of heroin possession and a midemeanor DUI charge after local officers reported that they found a small amount of the drug and a medical syringe in her car following the June 27 crash. Sgt. Matthew Benson wrote that he went to the intersection of Killingly Street and Greenville Avenue in Johnston after witnesses reported seeing "a female who was unconscious behind the wheel" of her 1995 Jeep. Johnston Man Arrested after Police Find Stolen Goods in Microwave

Jason Spiver, 24, faces larceny charges after police found several items belonging to a resident of The Ledges apartment complex in a microwave stashed in a shed.

  A Johnston man faces charges of larceny after a resident of The Ledges apartment complex on Federal Way said she discovered her wallet and several pieces of jewelry missing after she dropped off the suspect at a friend's house on June 9. Johnston Police this week reported the arrest of Jason Spiver, 24, of 59 Steere Dr., after officers investigating the apparent theft found the items in a microwave that had been stored in a shed on the friend's property. Ptlm. Mark Bairos reported that Trisha Kaminski, of 175 Federal Way, Apt. 302, went to police headquarters and told him that she suspected Spiver in the apparent theft of $27,000 worth of jewelry from her apartment. Johnston Police Arrest Cranston Woman on Hit-and-Run Charge

Officers charged Nancy Sanchez, of Lake Garden Drive, Cranston, with leaving the scene of a May 9 accident on Plainfield Street.

  A Cranston woman faces one count of failing to remain at the scene of an accident following her May 11 arrest by Johnston Police. According to police reports, Ptlm. Adam Parkinson responded to the parking lot at 1411 Plainfield St. at about 3:30 pm on May 9 and spoke with John Miller, of Pawtucket, who said he had been taking a right-hand turn into the driveway at 1341 Plainfield when his car was struck from behind. The crash caused minor damage to the rear of Miller's car, and no one was injured. Miller told Parkinson that the driver of the other car "threw her hands in the air" and drove away heading west. Parkinson reported that Miller said he then followed the car and tried to get the driver to stop, then stopped the pursuit once the…

Mayor To Vandals: We Will Find You

Police are investigating an apparent weekend incident in which a car was driven across fields at the soccer complex and behind Johnston High School, causing thousands of dollars in damage.

A gate left unlocked may have allowed vandals to drive onto the practice field behind Johnston High School, tip over a Port-A-John there, then take their vehicle onto the main field at the soccer complex, leaving deep ruts in its wake. Mayor Joseph Polisena called a press conference at the soccer complex at about noontime today, and toured the damaged areas with Parks and Recreation Foreman Lou Prata, who said the gate behind the high school was apparently left unlocked. The vandals apparently drove from behind the JHS football field, up a hill behind the gym, around a dirt path meant for maintenance trucks, and through the approximately 8-ft.-wide opening between yellow metal poles to the paved walkway to the soccer complex. I would not be surprised if it is the same "animals" that have been going through our "once" quiet neighborhood and egging every car on the streets. I hope these sick, immature "kids' get caught and they get punished "BIG" time for all this damage and destruction in town.
