Police Beat: Disorderly, Marijuana, Stolen Car, Stolen Copper

Recent incidents and arrests by Johnston Police.

DISMEMBERMENT THREATS Johnston Police charged a 21-year-old Cranston man with domestic disorderly conduct and violating a no-contact order after he allegedly threatened to “hack up” and dismember a Johnston woman with whom he had a former relationship. According to police, Joshua Michael Carey, of 19 Woodland Ave., Cranston, allegedly sent several text messages directed to the woman through a friend’s cell phone. In the messages, he threatened to “brutally murder [the woman] and dismember her body.” Police said Carey used one of his friend’s cell phones to send the text messages and the victim was sure it was Carey because he reportedly called the same number he was texting on a restricted number and made threats similar in nature to the …

Johnston Council President Claims Assault

Robert Russo told Providence Police that he got into a fight with the husband of a woman who works at Russo's law firm.

  Johnston Town Council President Robert V. Russo was involved in a fight on Wednesday with the husband of a woman who works at Russo's law office, the Providence Journal reported. According to the Journal, Russo alleged to Providence Police that David Batista, 36, attacked him outside the Seven Stars Bakery in Providence. Police reported that Russo had been injured in the fight, which Russo said resulted in both men falling to the ground. Batista later surrendered to police, and now faces a charge of simple assault.

State Police Charge Two With Fighting

Troopers reported seeing the two Johnston men engaged in a fight along I-95.

  Two Johnston men face charges after Rhode Island State troopers reported finding them fighting on the shoulder of I-95 North. Officers from the Lincoln Woods Barracks charged Michael W. Harrington, 25, of 4 Serrel Sweet Road, and Derek Aitchison, 29, of 15 Colombus Ave., with one misdemeanor count each of assault and disorderly conduct following an apparent fight at about 2:40 am Sunday. According to online reports, troopers presented the two men for arraignment later Sunday morning. They were released on personal recognizance until a court hearing to be scheduled.

ProJo: Johnston Man Arrested on Drug Charges, Violating Probation

David Levy, 39, had been serving 11 years' probation after a 2002 conviction on felony cocaine possession.

  A Johnston man serving probation on a 2002 drug conviction was arrested by Providence Police on Sept. 28, the Providence Journal reported. According to online court records, David Levy, 39, pleaded no contest on May 9, 2002, to felony charges of cocaine possession with intent to deliver and marijuana possession. Magistrate Joseph Keough sentenced Levy to 15 years in prison, with four to serve and 11 years suspended, and 11 years' probation. In the recent arrest case, Providence Police found 13 oz. of cocaine, more than 50 Oxycodone pills, and about $1,200 in cash at two residences used by Levy, the Journal reported.

RI State Police Arrest Log: Stolen Goods Suspect Nabbed on Warrant

State troopers arrested the Johnston man following a traffic stop in Providence.

  Rhode Island State Police from the Scituate Barracks reported the arrest of a Johnston man, who is awaiting two trials on felony charges, on an active court warrant in an unrelated case on Monday. Troopers stopped the car driven by Cristobal Rincon, 33, of 164 Borden Ave., just before 1 am Monday morning, Oct. 1, on Valley Street in Providence, and found the warrant issued by Third District Court for failing to appear at a payment review on a charge of driving with a suspended license brought by Johnston Police. Rincon pleaded no contest to the charge in October, 2011, and currently has $227 in fines to pay, according to online court records. JPD Arrest Log: DUI, Two Warrant Arrests

  Johnston Police reported the following arrests this week: Warrant Arrests: Ptlm. Remy Mendez arrested Gabriel Soto, 40, of 44 Suffolk St., Providence, on Sept. 21 at about 3:30 pm on a warrant issued by Third District Court, Warwick, following a traffic stop on Hartford Avenue for excessive smoke fumes emanating from his truck. The court warrant was issued for failure to appear at a payment hearing on a 2011 charge of driving with a suspended license brought by Warwick Police. Online court records indicate Soto appeared in court on Sept. 24 and paid the fine. Ptlm. Derek Parascondolo and Sgt. Michael Babbitt arrested Jason Delellis, 41, of 1 Larkwood Ct., on an active Superior Court warrant for failing to appear at arraignment on …

Johnston Man Charged After Swearing at Officer

Scott Bolton, 30, had been ordered to leave a home on Greenville Avenue after the homeowner called police.

  After being advised to leave a Greenville Avenue home, a Johnston man swore at a police officer, drawing a disorderly conduct charge, Johnston Police reported this week. Ptlm. Adam Parkinson reported that he found Scott Bolton, 30, at the home just past midnight on Sept. 24 after the homeowner called police and said that Bolton had been "banging on the windows and doors." When he and three other officers arrived at the scene, Parkinson wrote, Bolton tried to hide behind a boat in the driveway. Bolton appeared to be trying "to conceal his hands in his pockets and acting [in a] very fidgety manner," leading officers to frisk him for possible weapons, Parkinson noted. Johnston Man Charged with 6 Counts of Assaulting Officers

Anthony Furia, 20, had previously been involved in three high-speed chases with Johnston Police.

  Five Johnston Police officers reported injuries following the arrest of a Johnston man charged in two prior cases of reckless driving and sought in a third. Anthony Furia, 20, formerly of North Providence, faces six felony counts of assaulting a police officer, one felony count of threatening public officials, and a misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest. He is also facing charges of reckless driving and driving with a suspended license from a Sept. 13 incident, and remains held at the Adult Correctional Institutions, Cranston. Earlier this year, Furia was arrested twice within two weeks following two high-speed chases in Johnston. JPD: Scituate High-Speed Chase Suspects Stole Car from Johnston

The two men also admitted to vandalizing a concession stand at Johnston Memorial Park, according to police.

  Johnston Police issued their report on the arrests of two men involved in the theft of the car used in a high-speed chase on Sept. 12, and a break-in at Johnston Memorial Park three days earlier. Andrew Clay, 18, of Johnston, and Nicholas Winfield, 21, of Cranston, face multiple felony charges including car theft, breaking and entering, and conspiracy following the police investigation. The two men admitted to taking a wallet and credit cards from the home before trying to use the credit cards at stores around Johnston, according to police reports, and admitted to vandalizing a concession stand at Memorial Park prior to the home burglary. K-9 Unit Tracks Down Juvenile Suspect

The 16-year-old is accused of breaking into a home on Falmouth Street and assaulting one of the residents.

  The Johnston Police K-9 unit assisted in the arrest of a 16-year-old male suspected of assaulting a Falmouth Street resident and trying to break into the home later the same day. Ptlm. Matthew Leveille reported on Sept. 9 that he went to Enfield Street at about 9 pm after a witness told police about a woman "screaming and yelling" in the area. Leveille spoke with the 19-year-old, who said her 16-year-old boyfriend had assaulted her a short time earlier. Cumberland Police had also issued a BOLO [be on the lookout] message for the juvenile, who was suspected of stealing a car in that town and making threats against the victim and her family, Leveille reported. Two things; first this young girl needs major help in understanding character. As for this young misfit if he indeed did the things that have been stated we need to send him to Singapore for a good canning. In fact, I strongly believe in corporal punishment in which we could empty our prisons by approximately 80%.
