What's your plan for self-improvement in 2012?
With the new year arriving in a few hours, many people will consider making resolutions for 2012. Some of the popular ones include resolving to lose weight, quit smoking, spend less money, volunteer time with a charitable cause and to exercise more. A University of Washington study in 1997 found 47 percent of the 100 million adult Americans who made resolutions gave up on their goals after two months. This figure has grown to 80 percent in the past decade, according to recent research completed at the University of Minnesota. And so it seems that our good intentions often fall by the wayside. For the optimists out there, saying goodbye to 2010 and hello to 2011 should be a festive ocassion. If you live in Johnston, there were no shortage of opportunities for you to celebrate. At the Johnston Senior Center, the Johnston Dance and Performing Arts program (JDAPA) helped ring in the New Year. An attentive crowd took in the one-hour performance, which offered many opportunities to sing along, or interact with the performers. The set list included many classic songs made famous by Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Judy Garland, and others.
