Rhode Island Resource Recovery issued a notice to residents about the work taking place between Dawn Drive and Earl Drive.
As Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation continues its work to install a new sewer line along Central Avenue, residents have been notified of lane closures and detours for the next phase of the project. [The attached .pdf document explains the schedule of work and includes a map with detours and other information.] While this part of the work is not expected to require the shutdown of Central Avenue to through-traffic as was the case in mid-September, RIRRC noted that one lane will be closed through at least the end of this week as crews install sewer and water lines beneath the I-295 overpass heading toward Atwood Avenue. The $4 million project, formally started in July, will allow the RIRRC to tie into Narragansett Bay Commission …

Gov. Lincoln Chafee, Mayor Joseph Polisena, and officials from Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation and Narragansett Bay Commission gathered this morning for a ceremonial groundbreaking.
With a ceremonial toss of sand in the shadow of the I-295 overpass on Central Avenue, state and local officials this morning marked the beginning of Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation's $4 million sewer line project. Gov. Lincoln Chafee, Mayors Joseph Polisena of Johnston and Charles Lombardi of North Providence, state Sen. Frank Lombardo III, and town council members Eileen Fuoco (D-Dist. 1) and David Santilli (D-Dist. 3) joined officials from RIRRC and Narragansett Bay Commission, which will now handle the wastewater from Resource Recovery and other businesses located near the Central Landfill. RIRRC Executive Director Michael OConnell called the new project a "win-win-win-win all the way around," helping all the entities …

Gov. Lincoln Chafee and Mayor Joseph Polisena are expected to join officials from Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation for tomorrow's groundbreaking ceremony.
Government officials, including Gov. Lincoln Chafee and Mayor Joseph Polisena, are expected to attend a groundbreaking ceremony tomorrow morning at 10 am for a $4 million sewer project funded by Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation. The Central Landfill operator announced last year that it was planning to end its use of the Cranston wastewater system and switch to Narragansett Bay Commission by building the new sewer line along Central Avenue. RIRRC is paying for the work, which will also allow some 80 homes and businesses to use the new line, Polisena explained during a recent interview at Johnston Town Hall. "It allows the people in Central Avenue and other homes up there, including Briarcliffe Manor, to hook up to the line, …

Mayor Joseph Polisena stressed the economic need for sewers along Central Avenue.
Installing a new sewer line does much more than keep the streets clean, according to Mayor Joseph Polisena. It could mean millions for the town and jobs for residents. The Narragansett Bay Commission met at the Johnston Senior Center Tuesday night to discuss the town's facilities plan, specifically Rhode Island Resource Recovery's plan to build a new sewer line long Central Avenue, which would encourage further devlopment in the area, and allow residents in the area to connect to the new line. The key to the project is the money at stake, Polisena said. "My concern if this doesn't go through is that it's going to stop a lot of progress and a lot of jobs," the mayor said. "I don't have to tell anyone in here that there are a lot of Rhode …

Our town wastes millions annually in outrageous insane provisions. If we only paid town workers wages and benefits that reflect the private sector including allowing for school vouchers, that would save millions more, our town would have the best economy in the state in which all our needs would be dealt with, Republican Mayoral Candidate Peter A.
