LEAVING THE SCENE A 21-year-old Johnston woman was charged with leaving the scene of an accident after she allegedly changed her mind about going to Taco Bell and smashed into another car when she made an abrupt u-turn on Hartford Avenue, leaving behind her bumper – complete with license plate – and a hit-and-run victim. According to police, Ashley Cote, 21, of 283 Borden Ave., Johnston, was en-route to Taco Bell, driving in front of a car driven by a N. Attleborough, Mass., woman along Hartford Avenue. Near Robert Corio Jewelers, Cote reportedly changed her mind about the fast food and “suddenly pulled a U-turn” by pulling into the parking lot of the jewelers and back onto Hartford Avenue at a high rate of speed, according to an accident…

Second DUI arrest: Police arrested Joshua A. Malek, 26, of 146 Waterman Ave., North Providence, on a charge of DUI of liquor or drugs, second offense, with a BAC of .15 or greater. Around 1:30 a.m. on Sept. 4, Johnston Police Lt. Robert Abbruzzese, Sgt. Brian LeClair, Sgt. Michael Babbiitt, Patrolmen Philip Viens and Mario Mennella responded to a report of a car accident with injuries. The accident occurred at the intersection of George Waterman Road and Bowen Street. Malek allegedly stated to Viens that he veered right and struck the parked car. The collision pushed the parked vehicle about 100 feet into a stone wall, according to Viens’ report. The passenger in the parked car was transported by rescue to Fatima Hospital with head pain. …

Possession of marijuana: Johnston Police arrested David M. Medina, 21, on a charge of possession of marijuana, first offense and driving in possession of a controlled substance on Aug. 14. Medina's vehicle passed by Ptlm. Joseph Salvadore as he was on patrol in the area of Killingly Street and Greenville Avenue, Salvadore pulled over Medina for the dark tint on his car windows. As Salvadore spoke with Medina, the officer reported, the he could smell a marijuana odor allegedly coming from inside the vehicle. Medina was ordered out of the car and when asked if he had weapons or illegal narcotics on him, Medina responded: “Yo, I don’t know. Find out,” according to Salvadore’s report. Stealing from National Grid construction site: Johnston Police arrested Kevin A. Baptista and Brian P. Silva, both of East Providence, on charges of larceny over $500 and conspiracy. On Aug. 10, police received a call from a person witnessing two men loading steel beams into a Ford Ranger at the National Grid construction site. The witness described both the men and the direction they traveled after leaving the site. A worker at the construction site informed Ptlm. Troy Maddocks that the beams were support arms with an estimated cost of $1,500 each. The worker also told Maddocks that three of the support arms were missing, according to Maddocks’ report.
