Our Lady of Grace Feast 2012 — Sept. 9

Today marks the final day of the Italian Feast and Festival, with a Mass and procession held prior to the start of the feast.

    Our Lady of Grace Church wraps up its 2012 Italian Feast and Festival honoring the Madonna della Difesa today, with a solemn Mass at 10:30 am, followed by a procession and benediction. As part of the procession, a statue of the Madonna della Difesa will be carried through local streets, and viewers will be able to pin donations to the blue ribbons attached to the statue. The feast's last day is scheduled to start this afternoon at 1 p.m. in the "festival field" on Sherman Avenue behind the church. I was there last night and had the best steak and mushroom sandwich in a long, long time. Young guy there, Mike, does a fantastic job. Cooked to your order. Mine was medium rare. Perfect. Threat Of Rain Doesn't Dampen Their Spirit

Many turn out to enjoy food, friends, and games at Our Lady of Grace's annual feast.

Despite the threat of rain on Sept. 8, many people turned out for the opening night of the Our Lady of Grace Church Italian Feast and Festival, which had a little something for everyone. Besides a variety of food, the event also includes games, rides, merchandise for sale, music, and a raffle. The feast is scheduled to continue through Sunday, Sept. 11, rain or shine — there's a large tent in the event of inclement weather.

The annual Italian Feast and Festival kicks off tonight at 5 p.m.

Our Lady of Grace Church opens its 2011 Italian Feast and Festival honoring the Madonna Della DiFesa this afternoon at 5 p.m. in the "festival field" on Sherman Avenue behind the church. This marks the 103rd year since the founding of the feast society, named for the hilltop in Italy where, according to legend, four men who had seen the Virgin Mary in a dream later met each other on the hilltop and discovered skeletons, the remains of a chapel, an altar, and a marble inscription — as they had been promised in their dream. This year's Italian Feast and Festival honoring Madonna Della DiFesa is scheduled for Sept. 8 through 11.

About 25 volunteers gathered in the basement of Our Lady of Grace Church on Sept. 6 to cut, dice, and chop vegetables in preparation of the annual Italian Feast & Festival in honor of La Madonna Della DiFesa, scheduled to begin tonight. Head cook Carol Cambio, who has been volunteering for 12 years with the feast, explained the Italian specialties are all homemade and cooked on the church grounds. The menu is extensive, from Italian favorites like sausage and peppers, macaroni and meatballs, and calamari fried squid, to American favorites including doughboys and hamburgers. Cambio noted most of the meats are from Fed-Rick Veal company in Providence, and added the feast uses up to 280 pounds of hamburger. Several local businesses will be …
