5 Things To Know Today: Feb. 8

A business "matchmaker fair," Valentine's party and an author lecture at the library, a wine and chocolate tasting, and boys' basketball at the high school.

"Matchmaker Fair" For Businesses: The Rhode Island Small Business Administration presents its "Matchmaker Fair" beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Radisson Hotel in Warwick. Sponsored by the Johnson & Wales University Rhode Island Small Business Development Center, the fair offers business owners the opportunity to meet one-on-one with buyers from federal, state, and local agencies, and prime government contractors in need of qualified suppliers to fulfill their government contracts. Library Hosts 'Reader's Lair'

Students in grades 6 through 12 meet to discuss reading selections each month.

Braving the cold weather on Wednesday, Jan. 19, a group of students met at the Marian J. Mohr library for this month's Reader's Lair program. This time, the discussion was on James Dashner's The Maze Runner, a dystopian young adult novel that follows Thomas, a boy who finds himself in the Maze of the title.  Library Director Jon Anderson explained during an interview that the program welcomes students in grades 6 through 12, and that it's been a fairly popular activity.  "It's for all ages, kids are given a choice between a couple of different titles. We have a kick off at the beginning of the school year and sometimes have crowds of up to 90 people," said Anderson. Young Adult Librarian Tanya Paglia said that Reader's Lair is "a great way…
