Panthers Complete Season Sweep, Host Central in D-II Quarterfinal

Johnston tallied 38 points in the regular season finale on Nov. 2 in Westerly.

  Keeping with their season-long performance, the Johnston High School football Panthers trounced Westerly by a 38-10 score on Nov. 2. The Panthers finish the year undefeated and carrying a 270-46 scoring advantage into the Division II quarterfinals against Central, scheduled for tomorrow night at 7 pm at JHS. Senior Evan Hopson accounted for 18 of Johnston's points against the Bulldogs, booting a 27-yard field goal and three PATs and snaring TD passes from two different Panther QBs to secure Johnston's 8-0 regular season record. Senior captain RB Brendan Pappas added a 3-yard run, sophomore Curtis Mathieu scored on an 82-yard kickoff return, and sophomore Konstantinos Kirios drove into the end zone from 3 yards out to complete the …

RIHS Football Poll – Week 5

The Johnston Panthers held steady at number 5 with another convincing win.

  Johnston High School stayed at number 5 in the latest Rhode Island High School Football Media Poll following a 26-6 victory on the road at Coventry on Oct. 5. Evan Hopson caught a 20-yard TD pass from Michael Caparco, and three Panthers scored rushing touchdowns, on the way to Johnston's fifth straight win, the Providence Journal reported. So far this year, Johnston has outscored its opposition 173-18 on the way to a one-game lead in Division II-A. Johnston's next game is scheduled for Friday night, Oct. 19 at Chariho, followed by JHS Homecoming, Oct. 27, at 1:30 pm against Warwick Veterans High School. Sports Preview: JHS vs. Chariho Football

The Panthers host the Chariho Regional High School Chargers today at 1:30 p.m. in the annual Homecoming game.

Today's scheduled football game between Johnston and Chariho Regional High Schools is important to the Panthers for two reasons —  first, it's the annual Homecoming match-up; and second, it could have future Division II-A playoff implications, as Johnston and Chariho both have only one division loss heading into the contest. Chariho (4-1) is fresh off a 40-22 victory in Middletown on Oct. 7, while Johnston (3-1) is back in action after a bye week following a loss in a two-overtime thriller at Central High School, 42-36, on Sept. 30.
