'Tri-mary' for Council Ward 1 Among Races on Tuesday's Ballot

A town council seat will be decided in tomorrow's primary vote, as will the state Senate seat in Dist. 25.

  Two contested races in Johnston will be settled by tomorrow's primary vote, including the Ward 1 Town Council seat currently held by Eileen Fuoco (D) and the state Senate Dist. 25 post held by Democratic incumbent Sen. Frank Lombardo. Following the candidates' gathering of signatures in July, Fuoco's name will appear at the top of the ballot in the Ward 1 race, with Edward Cardillo Jr. and Paul Crowell III listed second and third, respectively. After Democrat William J. Murphy failed to collect the required number of signatures, and no other candidates filed papers to run, Lombardo will face Nicole Acciardo, 19, to decide the race. Petrarca, Costantino Trade Barbs

Incumbent Rep. Peter Petrarca (D-Dist. 44) and primary challenger Gregory Costantino accused each other of benefiting from the state.

  In the opening round of what could be a very contentious Democratic primary for the state House of Representatives District 44 seat, incumbent Rep. Peter Petrarca and challenger Gregory Costantino this week made an issue of benefits each said the other has received from the state. The Providence Journal reported yesterday that Costantino accused Petrarca of supporting bills that benefited his family, which runs an auto body business in Providence. Later in the day, the Journal quoted Petrarca as saying he "abstained from every single vote" on legislation dealing with auto body businesses. Petrarca also told the Journal that Costantino's family has been helped by the state's approval of a medical marijuana dispensary license for a …
