With flu rates higher than normal, R.I. Health Director Fine says it's not too late to get vaccinated and protect yourself and others. Find out where to get a flu shot in Johnston.

From the office of Michael Fine, M.D., director of the Rhode Island Department of Health: As the flu remains widespread in Rhode Island and continues to send people to doctors’ offices and hospitals throughout the state, unvaccinated Rhode Islanders are urged to get flu shots to protect not only themselves, but also those around them — particularly elderly people and babies under the age of six months.   “Flu vaccine helps you and the people in your life stay healthy,” Fine said. “Roughly 40 percent of the state has been vaccinated so far this flu season. For the hundreds of thousands of Rhode Islanders who still haven’t gotten flu shots, it’s not too late to protect yourself, your family members, neighbors, co-workers, and friends.” This…

Poll: Did You Get Your Flu Shot?

The state Department of Health is urging residents to get vaccinated against influenza.

The longer days and cooler temperatures mean winter is approaching. But that's not the only season on the way. In an attempt to keep hospital ERs from filling up with influenza-stricken patients, the state Department of Health is urging residents to get their flu shots before the peak of the season begins this winter. “Anyone can get the flu, and the flu will keep you home from work or school for at least a week,” Director of Health Dr. Michael Fine said in a release. “The flu is a serious illness and can be even more serious for the elderly, the very young, and anyone who has a chronic illness.
