A Johnston man was ordered held at the ACI following his arrest on a felony assault charge on June 17.
Johnston Police reported this week that they arrested a local man on domestic assault charges, leading the state Attorney General's office to charge him as a probation violator. Lennard Johnson, 28, of 20 Park St., Apt. 130, was serving a four-year suspended sentence and four years' probation for two previous convictions on June 17, when officers responded to the corner of Park Street and Atwood Avenue to investigate a report of a disturbance. Ptlm. Derrick Palazzo reported that he saw "numerous parties in the roadway arguing" when he arrived at the scene at about 4:15 am with five other officers. Johnston Police allege that the suspect broke the window of his parents' front door.
Johnston Police on June 3 charged Alexander J. Correia, 21, of 15 Schofield St., with domestic willful trespass; domestic vandalism/malicious injury to property; domestic disorderly conduct; and resisting arrest after his parents reported him on their property in violation of a no-trespass order. Shortly after 9 a.m. on June 3, Ptlm. Luca Lancellotti Jr. responded to 13 Schofield St. to investigate a report of a domestic disturbance. Johnston Police charged a Simmonsville Avenue resident with multiple domestic violence charges after he allegedly assaulted his ex-girlfriend.
Johnston Police charged David Law, 26, of 345 Simmonsville Ave., with felony domestic assault, misdemeanor domestic disorderly conduct, and driving with a suspended or expired license after he was arrested by Rhode Island State Police on Feb. 24. According to police records, Law allegedly assaulted his ex-girlfriend while she was driving him to his cousin’s house on Feb. 10. The victim told Ptlm. Two residents of The Ledges apartments off Old Pocasset Road face assault charges after their arrests in separate incidents on Feb. 20.
Johnston Police arrested two residents of The Ledges apartments, located on Federal Way, on a variety of charges following separate incidents in the early morning hours of Feb. 20. Ptlm. Derek Palazzo reported that he and three other officers responded to 124 Federal Way at about 3:30 a.m. for reports of a disturbance. According to police reports, officers found "a disheveled and out-of-breath female," later identified as Dawn Juszczyszyn, 35, who told the officers that "everything was fine." The 52-year-old Johnston man appeared at an arraignment hearing this afternoon in Warwick.
Donald K. Greenslit, 52, who reportedly admitted to killing his girlfriend on Jan. 22 and trying to burn her remains, was ordered held without bail by Associate Judge Pamela Woodcock-Pfeiffer at an arraignment hearing this afternoon at Third District Court in Warwick. Johnston Police charged Greenslit with one felony count of domestic murder; two felony counts of second-degree child abuse; one felony count of violating a no-contact order obtained by the victim, Stacie Dorego, in November, 2011; and misdemeanor charges of obstructing firefighters and disorderly conduct. Mayor Polisena challenges other towns to follow Johnston's lead.
Mayor Joseph M. Polisena and local officials made a formal donation of 78 cell phones to the Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence on July 14 at the senior center in an effort to help victims and survivors of abuse. Coalition Executive Director Deborah DeBare said the donation is "a true collaborative effort to keep the entire community safe," and spoke about the increased awareness of domestic abuse. "It wasn't so long ago where the Coalition Against Domestic Violence was the lone voice speaking out about this problem," DeBare explained.
