Man Charged with Felonies for Workplace Copper Thefts

Johnston Police charged a North Providence man with felony breaking and entering and larceny after he was allegedly caught on tape stealing copper and lead from Armando Ricci & Sons on Hartford Avenue.

A 47-year old North Providence man was charged with three counts of felony breaking and entering and felony larceny after he was allegedly caught on camera stealing copper and other metals worth thousands from his job, police said. According to a police report, Thomas M. Egan, of 55 Metcalf Ave., North Providence was recorded by security cameras at Armando Ricci & Sons on Hartford Avenue stealing copper and lead on three occasions. On Dec. 28, Johnson Det. James H. Brady met with the business owner and viewed some of the video surveillance which clearly showed Egan pry open a door to a small building using a metal bar he had taken out of the trunk of his gold Chevy Malibu. Johnston Police Log: Leads Sought in Copper Theft; Warrant Arrest

The following reports were provided by the Johnston Police Department. Where an arrest is noted, it does not indicate a conviction.

  Leads Sought in Copper Theft:  Johnston Police are seeking information on the apparent theft of copper pipes and fittings from 747 Greenville Ave., which occurred between Oct. 24 at 6:30 pm and Oct. 27 at 4 pm. Ptlm. Troy Maddocks reported that he spoke with Kenneth McNeil, who stated that he discovered the copper missing when he checked the contents of a metal storage container on his property. Maddocks said he saw fingerprint "smudge" marks on the outside of the storage container and referred the matter to detectives for further investigation. The estimated value of the copper is $3,400. JPD Second-in-Command Stops Attempted Copper Theft

Johnston Police Deputy Chief David DeCesare pursued a Providence man on foot after the suspect tried to cut copper piping from a transmission tower owned by WPRO radio.

Johnston Police charged a Providence man with attempted larceny over $500 and vandalism/malicious injury to property after Deputy Chief David DeCesare chased him on foot through a wooded area on Apr. 25. According to police reports, an engineer for WPRO called Johnston Police headquarters to report a person cutting copper pipes at the back of the radio tower off Ipswich Street, near Morgan Avenue. As Ptlm. Adam Parkinson was heading to the scene, DeCesare reported over the radio that he was in a foot chase with the suspect, later identified as Jason A.
