Home Repair Program Hosts Workshop Tonight

Local homeowners looking for help to fund repairs can meet town officials tonight at the senior center.

The Johnston-North Providence Home Repair Program — a joint effort between the two towns to provide no-interest loans to eligible homeowners — is scheduled to hold an application workshop tonight at the Johnston Senior Center starting at 7:30 p.m. Announced in December by Mayors Joseph Polisena of Johnston and Charles Lombardi of North Providence, the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program provides up to $10,000 in no-repayment loans, repaid when the home is sold or transferred, to each homeowner who meets the program's guidelines. Johnston CDBG Applications

The town's applications for federal Community Development Block grant funds.

The attached documents are the Town of Johnston's applications for federal funds under the Community Development Block Grant program. The first is a $258,000 application under the Small Cities funding program, which provides assistance to homeowners who need help in repairing their homes. The second is a Disaster Recovery application that could bring the town up to $2.2 million in federal funds to pay for continued work in response to the March 2010 floods. Om May 9, the town council approved the applications.
