Next 'Eco-Depot' Saturday at Landfill

Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation has scheduled a household hazardous waste (HHW) collection from 8 am to noon on July 14.

  Have you been cleaning out the garage or basement and wondering what to do with those bottles used of motor oil, old cans of paint, and other stuff? Rhode Island Resource Recovery is scheduled to host its next Eco-Depot Collection drive on Saturday from 8 am to 12 noon to collect household hazardous waste (HHW) at the Central Landfill on Shun Pike in Johnston. “We’ve held more than 20 successful collections so far this year,” Joe Rotella, Special Waste Manager for RIRRC, said in a statement. “Eco-Depot collections provide residents the opportunity to safely rid their homes, garages and basements of any household hazardous waste. We encourage residents to keep up the good work and take advantage of this nearby collection in Johnston.” …

Video: Launch of 'Recycle Together RI'

The Central Landfill in Johnston was the site of a ceremony to formally open the newly-renovated Materials Recycling Facility on June 6.

  While the system itself has been running for a few weeks, this morning's ceremonial opening of the recently renovated Materials Recycling Facility at the Central Landfill in Johnston was an important milestone for the state's continuing recycling efforts. Gov. Lincoln Chafee and Lt. Gov. Elizabeth Roberts were among the state and local officials who attended this morning's event, which included a brief speaking program and a formal ribbon-cutting for the $17 million "single-stream" recycling system. EcoRI Reports 'Single-Stream' Recycling Launch Moved To June

The Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation is scheduled to begin a new system of sorting recyclable materials this summer.

The website ecoRI news reported yesterday that the launch date has been moved to June for a new recycling system at Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation. RIRRC has been working toward what is commonly termed a "single-stream" sorting system by installing a $17 million sorting machine, the website reported. ecoRI News also reported that RIRRC officials are considering a change in the term "single-stream" to keep residents from thinking that they can throw trash away with their recyclables, and are using the extra time to allow cities and towns to prepare for the switch.
