Eco-Depot Collection Scheduled for Today

Appointments required for drop-off of household hazardous waste (HHW) at the Central Landfill.

The following is a press release from Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation. Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation (RIRRC) is giving state residents a chance to rid their homes of household hazardous waste at the Central Landfill today during its Eco-Depot Collection. Appointment necessary. To make an appointment and view the complete list of materials Eco-Depot accepts, visit www.ecodepotri.org or call (401) 942-1430 x241. The Eco-Depot collection in scheduled for 8 am to noon. Rhode Islanders are encouraged to attend the drop-off collections at the RIRRC headquarters at 65 Shun Pike, Johnston, where RIRRC officials will accept and dispose of their household hazardous waste.  Household hazardous waste is collected separately …

DEM Sets Up Monitoring Site At Ballfield

The state agency installed a system at Woodlake Park to monitor air quality and measure hydrogen sulfide levels.

The state Department of Environmental Management announced today that it has installed an air monitoring system at Woodlake Park on Central Avenue to measure levels of hydrogen sulfide, the main cause of recent odor problems at the Central Landfill. According to a DEM statement, the equipment will continuously monitor the air for hydrogen sulfide levels and wind speed and direction. State Health Department Director Dr. Michael Fine said in the DEM statement that his office has found "no evidence that severe medical problems are occurring due to landfill gasses," but added that the ongoing odor problems should be addressed. “Our surveillance shows no increase in emergency medical visits or procedures; however, this does not change the fact …

DEM also failed to mention that Flares are being installed to burn off the gases.Great not only are we buring off Methane but what how those other chemicals like household,oils and the cyinade laced dirt from Tiverton all decomposing together and being burned. This is the answer?   more ›
