A little over six months since a Rhode Island Kids Count survey listed Johnston's high school graduation rate at 76 percent, Supt. Dr. Benard DiLullo told the school committee on Jan 10 that 82 percent of eligible students graduated in 2011. “We are most pleased with the great improvement in graduation rates at the high school,” DiLullo said during the committee's meeting, held at Ferri Middle School. Coaching vacancies and appointment of newspaper advisors to Johnston High School and Ferri Middle School are on tonight's agenda.
The Johnston School Committee is scheduled to consider several coaching appointments — including one for a coach who was denied a previously-vacant position — during its meeting at 7 p.m. tonight at Ferri Middle School. At its Oct. 18 meeting, the school board voted 5-0 to deny the junior varsity coaching position to Carmine Giarrusso, who is on tonight's agenda for consideration of the middle school girls' basketball coach vacancy.
