A Dodge Caravan apparently caught fire on Atwood Avenue near the Rte. 6 interchange.
Johnston Police and Fire personnel responded to a vehicle fire in the area of 1400 Atwood Ave., just beyond the Rte. 6 interchange near the Monro Muffler Brake & Service shop. Police officers blocked the southbound travel lane on Atwood, directing traffic onto the Rte. 6 westbound ramp, then back onto Atwood around the disabled vehicle. Traffic exiting Rte. 6 headed south was redirected into the northbound lane. No injuries were reported in the incident, which slowed traffic to a crawl in both directions on Atwood Avenue during a typically busy time. The charred gold Dodge Caravan was towed from the scene, and traffic returned to normal by about 1:30 p.m.
