State Police Nab Murder Parolee on Warrant

Troopers arrested Victor St. Hill, who had served time for a murder conviction, and two other Johnston men over three days.

  Rhode Island State Police reported that officers arrested three men from Johnston in three days — including a parolee — on outstanding court warrants. On June 27, members of the State Police Intelligence Unit arrested Victor St. Hill, 38, of 725 Branch Ave., on a parole violation warrant. St. Hill was on parole after serving about 13 years of a 25-year sentence imposed for a second-degree murder charge that had been reduced from a prior count of first-degree murder. In 1998, state prosecutors first brought charges against St. Hill for the 1995 murder of Grady Bolden in Providence. That trial ended with acquittal on a charge of conspiracy to commit murder and a hung jury on charges of first-degree murder and conspiracy to possess, …

Two Arrests Made On Prov. Border

Johnston Police made a DUI stop and a cocaine possession arrest within two days of each other near the Manton Bridge.

A Providence man faces a count of DUI, and a Foster resident is awaiting trial on a felony cocaine possession charge after Johnston Police arrested them in separate incidents within two days of each other. David Keane, 50, of 24 Paolino St., Providence, was reportedly driving on Greenville Avenue near the Providence city line with his car's headlights turned off at about 9:15 p.m. on Mar. 16 when Sgt. Dennis Peacock tried to get Keane to stop. Peacock reported that he was standing the roadway and using his flashlight to direct Keane to pull over. Keane stopped his maroon Hyundai, looked at Peacock, then drive south on Traver Street, according to police reports. After chasing Keane's car in his police cruiser, Peacock reported that he …

JPD Nab Pursuit Suspect After Foot Chase

Robert Lahiff, of North Providence, reportedly led Johnston Police on a high-speed chase on Plainfield Pike on Feb. 15.

Johnston Police arrested Robert Lahiff, 46, of North Providence, on one count of high-speed pursuit, second offense; driving with a suspended license; and two court warrants after he reportedly led officers on a high-speed pursuit on Feb. 15 on Plainfield Street. Ptlm. Adam Parkinson reported that he was at a fixed post at about 11 a.m. on Feb. 15 when he saw a 2002 gray Pontiac Grand Am cross the double yellow line at the intersection of Plainfield Street and Fletcher Avenue. In his report, Parkinson wrote that he checked the registration on the car and found that it had expired on Jan. 20, 2012. When Parkinson tried to pull over the car, he reported, the driver — later identified as Lahiff — pulled over to the breakdown lane, but did not…

Assault, disorderly conduct: Johnston Police arrested Michael J. Todaro, 26, of 185 Providence St., West Warwick, on a charge of simple assault or battery and disorderly conduct on Jan. 6. Sgts. David Alverson and Seth Crosby, and Ptlmn. Matthew Winsor, Stephen Altomari, and Jeffrey Fryer responded to a call of a man being chased by a woman and a man in the parking lot of Dunkin' Donuts at 1999 Plainfield St. around 2 p.m. on Jan. 6. Fryer reported that he spoke with the victim, who was bleeding from the mouth and stated that his friend, Todaro, allegedly “sucker-punched” him after attempting to go after the victim’s wife, according to Fryer’s report. Scrapping stolen goods arrest: Johnston Police arrested Peter Tortorella, 41, of 100 Elliot Ave., North Providence, on a felony charge of receiving stolen goods on Dec. 30. Ptlm. Matthew Leveillee stated in his report dated Dec. 28 that a manager for F.W. Webb Company in Cranston reported that steel pipes had been stolen from the company, and then scrapped at Full Circle Recycling at 23 Green Hill Road in Johnston. The manager provided Leveillee receipts with Peter Tortorella’s signature for the scrapped metal. On Dec. 29, Detectives Thomas Dwyer and Joshua Heywood responded to Full Circle Recycling, where they obtained a witness statement and video surveillance of the transactions with Tortorella. House break: On Nov. 14 at about 4:45 p.m., Johnston Police Ptlm. Michael Andreozzi responded to 17 Lafazia Dr. for a report of a break-in and theft. The victim stated that jewelry and other items with acombined value of about $1,500 had been taken from her home. Earlier that day, Ptlm. Mark Vieira responded to the area for a suspicious vehicle call, but reported that the vehicle was gone when he arrived. On Nov. 15, Vieira stopped a red Dodge pickup truck that matched the description from the previous day's call, and interviewed the owner, idenfitied as Wuidman Giron, and two passengers. Possession of marijuana: Johnston Police arrested Saverio Montecalvo, 45, of 41 Beech St., Woonsocket, on a charge of possession of marijuana, first offense. Ptlm. Joseph Salvadore noticed a car parked in a wooded area along the side of the road while on patrol on Oct. 7. A man was sitting in the driver’s seat and as Salvadore pulled his cruiser next to the car, a woman’s head suddenly appeared from the passenger seat, according to Salvadore’s report. Montecalvo told Salvadore they were talking and relaxing. An odor of marijuana emanated from car. Montecalvo admitted there was marijuana in the back seat of the car. Arrests following accident on I-295: Johnston Police arrested two men in the early morning hours of Sept. 30 after the driver allegedly failed to report an accident, and his passenger reportedly argued with officers and resisted arrest. At about 2:10 a.m., Sgt. Dennis Peacock and Ptlmn. Ryan Lemieux, Dana Gousie, Thomas Hayden, and Jeffrey Cicchitelli responded to the Mobil gas station at 1901 Plainfield Pike, where they spoke to a clerk at the store, who had called 9-1-1 to report a car accident. The driver of the vehicle, Jason Batista, of Branchville, NJ, reportedly told officers that he had fallen asleep while driving his father's 2007 Mercedes ML320 on I-295. Various domestic charges: Johnston Police arrested Raymond S. Baccaire, 38, of 349 Sunset Ave., North Providence, on charges of domestic simple assault/battery, third offense; domestic disorderly conduct; domestic vandalism/malicious injury to property; violation of a no contact order, driving without the consent of the owner; high speed pursuit, second offense; failure to appear in court. Lt. Frank Levesque heard from an informant that Baccaire was staying with his ex-wife in Providence, according to police reports. High Speed Pursuit: Johnston Police suspect Michael H. Evans, 43, of 250 Old Baptist Road, North Kingstown, of reckless driving, eluding an officer with a motor vehicle, speeding, and use of breakdown lane for travel. Johnston Police Patrolman Matthew Winsor’s dashboard radar read 74 miles per hour as the driver of a tan Mercedes sped down Hartford Avenue on Sept. 4 around 10 a.m. Winsor activated his lights and siren and pursued the driver. The driver continued to speed in the 35-mph zone with Winsor following at 85 miles per hour east on Hartford Avenue. Winsor continued to follow the Mercedes onto Route 295 South to Route 6 East.
