Joan Grist, previously of Smithfield and Greenville, passed away this past week.

The following obituary was provided by Anderson Winfield Funeral Home. Joan L. Grist passed away on Friday, Dec. 27 at the age of 74 in Lehigh Acres, FL, where she had lived for the past 15 years. Prior to that, Grist lived in Greenville an Johnson. She leaves behind her husband, David I. Grist. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Ettie (Richards) Fortin. She worked at Amica Insurance in Providence and also as a jewelry assembler. She was an administrative assistant at her husband's business for many years and was a former member of the Greenville Junior Women's Club. Anthony Albanese: Forman for BIF Industries

The Johnston resident passed away on Dec. 2, 2012.

  Anthony Albanese, 92, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012 at the Morgan Health Center. He was the husband of the late Loretta (Mattera) Albanese. Born in Providence, a son of the late Benedetto and Teresa (DiMundo) Albanese. He lived in Providence before moving to Johnston where he had lived for many years. Mr. Albanese was a Foreman for the former BIF Industries until retiring in 1985. In his youth, he served in a Civilian Conservation Corps Camp. He was a longtime member of the YMCA and he credited his longevity to his commitment to swimming three to four times a week. He is survived by his daughters, Loraine C.   Edith Reynolds, 87, formerly of Mechanic Street, North Smithfield, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2012 at Home and Hospice Care of RI. She was the widow of William L. Walker and James F. Reynolds.  Born in Chelsea, VT, she was the daughter of the late James D. and Elizabeth (Lagacy) Bulris. She had lived in North Smithfield for many years. She had worked as a winder and mender before retiring, but her passion was her music. She sang and played the guitar since she was 16. Known as Pat The Yodeling Cowgirl, she performed all over New England. She was a member of the Westones and the Smithfield Emblem Club and the former Union Chapel. Peter J. Connell: Observer Sports Writer, Army Reserve Veteran

The Greenville resident passed away on Oct. 12, 2012.

  Peter J. Connell, 72, of Wade Drive in Greenville, passed away with his family by his side on Friday, Oct. 12, after a nine-month battle with pancreatic cancer. He was married to the love of his life, Dorothy A. (Healey) Connell, for 46 years. Born in Providence, he was the only child of the late William A. & Margaret J. (McGovern) Connell. He graduated from LaSalle Academy in 1956 and Providence College in 1960. He performed graduate studies at Long Island University through 1962 and earned a Master‘s Degree in Rehabilitation from Assumption College in 1975. The recent retiree from FM Global passed away on Sept. 23, 2012.

  Alejandrina “Alice” Thomas, 72, of Sandy Brook Road, Glocester, died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012 at Roger Williams Hospital. Born in Puerto Rico, she was one of 12 children of the late Santo Rivera and Francisca (DelGado) Rivera. Alice was a member of the St. Joseph’s Church Women’s Guild and recently retired from FM Global. She is survived by her husband, James V. Thomas; a daughter, Jeanette Vazquez of New Rochelle, NY; a grandson, Noel Maldondo; a sister, and four brothers. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 10 am in St. Joseph Church, Main Street, North Scituate. The former Johnston resident and World War II Army veteran passed away on Sept. 21, 2012.

  Anthony Catanzaro, 96, of Cooper Road, Chepachet, a retired Cartographer for Army Map Service, died Friday at Bayberry Commons. He was the widower of Anna C. (Restivo) Catanzaro. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Bartolo J. and Rose (Sansone) Catanzaro. He had previously lived in Johnston for 55 years. He was a Major in the US Army, serving in the 21st Infantry during WWII. Hazel L. Lawton

The Scituate native passed away on Aug. 25, 2012, at Briarcliffe Manor in Johnston.

  Hazel L. Lawton, 94, of Waterman Avenue, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012, at the Briarcliffe Manor in Johnston. She was the wife of the late Walter E. Lawton. They had been married for 54 years. Born in Scituate, a daughter of the late Arthur and Adelaide (Stone) Albery. She had lived in Smithfield for 55 years. Mrs. Lawton had worked at the former Ritz Vanity retiring in 1954. During WWII she had worked in Connecticut manufacturing aircraft parts for the war effort. She leaves her son, Richard W. Lawton and his wife, Gail, of Smithfield, and her grandson Nathan. The Johnston resident and Navy veteran of World War II passed away Friday, May 18, 2012.

  Donald J. Harter, 85, of Mulberry Circle, died Friday, May 18, 2012 at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the husband of the late Ella A. (Corsi) Harter. Born in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, he was a son of the late Jesse and Amanda (Horn) Harter. He had lived in Johnston since 1974. Mr. Harter was a meat specialist for Monarch Food Service before retiring. He was a member and Past President of the Warwick Sportsmen’s Club, a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church and a former member of the Holy Name Society.
