Week in Review: Jenna, Delta, Panthers, Marriage, Beach, Subpoena

From the announcement of a car and bike show, to continued success for the JHS baseball squad, to where to find beach passes this summer, we've got your headlines for the week ending May 18, 2012.

Jenna: On Tuesday, we posted our video of the announcement for the ACI Customs bike and car show and motorcycle run, set for June 2 and benefiting Pink Heals and Jenna Jacques, a local 9-year-old girl who's in her second round of chemotherapy. Delta: First, Mayor Joseph Polisena announced the town had saved money from switching from Delta Dental to Blue Cross. Then, Delta replied that it could have saved the town even more — and last Monday, Polisena replied by asking: "Why didn’t they give us [the savings] before?" Panthers: The Johnston High School varsity baseball team maintained its hold on first place in Division II-North following a 9-0 shutout against Burrillville on May 14, the squad's 12th in a row and 15th win overall. Marriage: …

Video: 'Team Jenna' Bike and Car Show Announcement at ACI Customs

ACI Customs of Johnston has chosen Rhode Island Pink Heals and local resident Jenna Jacques as beneficiary of the scheduled June 2 event.

A local 9-year-old girl who is fighting her second battle with brain cancer is this year's beneficiary of the ACI Customs 6th Annual Bike and Custom Car Show, scheduled for June 2 at the bike shop, located at the corner of Killingly Street and Oakdale Avenue. Jenna Jacques and her family attended a recent press conference with members of Rhode Island Pink Heals and Anthony Ferranti Jr., owner of ACI Customs and Anthony's Auto Body to announce this year's event. It's the latest in a recent series of ties among the groups and the town — last year, Mayor Joseph Polisena ceremonially donated a retired police cruiser to Pink Heals, and ACI Customs hosted a bike and car show to help Pink-Surance, a nonprofit organization started by Johnston …

Pink-Surance Benefit Set For May 29

ACI Customs of Oakdale Avenue is sponsoring the bike run and car show to raise funds for the breast cancer awareness charity.

ACI Customs of Oakdale Avenue is scheduled to host its fifth annual Bike and Car Show and second annual Bike Run on May 29 to benefit Pink-Surance, a nonprofit organization founded by Johnston resident Marissa Levesque to cover the costs of genetic testing for women who are at risk of breast cancer. While there are sure to be many superb motorcycles and cars on display, the centerpiece of the event will be the official unveiling of the Pink-Surance themed chopper. You can see past articles and video about ACI's work to build the Pink-Surance bike here and here. Race To The Finish On Pink-Surance Chopper

The theme motorcycle is due for its television debut on May 10.

Five weeks ago, we saw the beginning stages of the Pink-Surance custom chopper being built by ACI Customs on Oakdale Avenue — and with the clock ticking until its television debut on May 10, we found the ACI team hard at work getting the motorcyle completed. Fox TV's The Rhode Show is expected to show the finished product on May 10. The first of the accompanying videos shows a behind-the-scenes look at Anthony Orsorio's airbrush work and the planning of the final touches for the tank's art. Johnston resident Marissa Levesque, founder of Pink-Surance, speaks about the work that's gone into getting the bike ready — almost three weeks ahead of its original schedule of May 29 — in the second video. We've also included a gallery from the recent…

Custom Chopper In The Works To Support Pink-Surance

ACI Customs at the corner of Killingly Street and Oakdale Avenue has started work on a themed chopper that will benefit the charity begun by Marissa Levesque.

There's something in the works at ACI Customs at the corner of Killingly Street and Oakdale Avenue — the family-owned custom motorcycle shop has begun work on a theme chopper to benefit Pink-Surance, the nonprofit organization founded by Johnston resident Marissa Levesque. The goal of Pink-Surance is to raise funds that will help women pay for cancer screening tests that are not covered by medical insurance, and to raise awareness of the genetic mutations known as BRCA1 and BRCA2 that cause breast cancer. Providing women with the means to get the tests can empower them to make the decision to "pre-vive," Levesque explained — undergoing surgery early, instead of facing years of painful chemotherapy and other measures later. This year, …
