Thornton Elementary School
401-943-7369
Thornton Elementary School is the successor to one of two earlier schools that served the neighborhood. Originally part of the Vial School District #2, the first school was built at Morgan Avenue and School Street in 1892. Following a fire in 1919 that destroyed the original building, a new school was constructed in 1921. One of three Feinstein Leadership Schools in Johnston, Thornton was fortunate to have its students meet or exceed state averages in five of seven categories on the 2009 NECAP assessments.
