Johnston Weekend: Flicks Under the Stars, Crafts at Smith-Appleby

Great weather means great choices for your weekend activities around Johnston.

What are you planning to do this weekend in Johnston?

The forecast for Aug. 16 through 18 in Johnston is for clear skies and comfortable temperatures — so choose an event and get out and enjoy!

Starting Thursday night, the Rustic Tri-Vue Drive-In is showing:

  • Smurfs 2 [PG] and Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters [PG]
  • We're the Millers [R] leading into The Conjuring [R],
  • and Grown Ups 2 [PG-13] followed by Elysium [R].
Admission is $25 per carload. Shows start at dusk, around 8:45 p.m.

And while you're there, be sure to pick up the new Rustic Drive-In tee-shirt available at the concession stand. $18, made by Hemlock Ink Custom Screenprinting.

There's also a great craft event at Smith-Appleby House on Saturday at 1 p.m., where kids can make their own corn husk doll. While you're there, take a tour of the historic house. Tours are $5 for adults, free for kids.

Up in Woonsocket, Chan's Fine Oriental Dining hosts a triple threat of great music, with The Tough Tenors, Sax Gordon and Mike Tucker on Friday night, the Jerry Portnoy Blues Quartet on Saturday, and Larry McCray on Sunday.

Online tickets are $12 for The Tough Tenors, $19 for Saturday and Sunday night shows.

And if a throw-back show is more your speed, check out Thoroughly Modern Millie this weekend at the Stadium Theatre in Woonsocket. The rollicking 1920s musical hits the stage on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday for a 2 p.m. matinee.

Online tickets are $19.
