Volunteers Sought For Hospice Training

The East-Providence based hospice care provider is scheduled to begin a training course on Oct. 5.

, of East Providence, is seeking volunteers to spend time with terminally ill patients, including an estimated 30 in Johnston.

The agency is scheduled to host a five-week Volunteer Training and Orientation Program on October 5, 2011, starting with an orientation session.

Classes are from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Beacon Hospice East Providence Office, 1 Catamore Blvd.

According to a press release from the agency, volunteers can provide much-needed support to patients and their families in a number of ways, including:

  • visiting with patients on an ongoing basis,
  • pet therapy,
  • sitting vigils,
  • knitting blankets/crocheting afghans,
  • organizing craft projects, and,
  • working in the Beacon Hospice office.
