Reminder: Bike Path Clean-Up Set for Apr. 28

The Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council and several other organizations are teaming up for "Clean Day on the Greenway" at the end of the month.

Did you know there’s a bike path in Johnston? Join forces with the Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council, Save The Bay, the , Explorers and other Johnston residents to help us get the path ready for spring.

Clean Day on the Greenway brings out residents from all over Rhode Island to clean along the Fred Lippitt in Johnston and Providence.

In 1993, the Woonasquatucket River was recognized as an untapped asset and the Woonasquatucket River Greenway Project was initiated. Since then, many volunteers have worked to restore the river and adjacent, abandoned industrial lands, and the river has become a catalyst for positive change in neighborhoods along the River.

Four parks along the Greenway have been renovated and reopened, and a has been established in Johnston. The bike path is the first and only paved off-road path in both Providence and Johnston and a planned expansion will take it along the river, up to North Smithfield. Look out for the renovation of Cricket Field, coming soon!

This year, our efforts will include weeding and mulching tree wells and plant beds, loaming and seeding the bike path entrance at Hillside Avenue, removing graffiti, touching up paint on trash cans, and pulling debris from in and near the river at various locations along the Woonasquatucket River Greenway.
