If you're at Barnes and Noble in Warwick today, consider throwing a few dollars in the jar when you get your gifts wrapped.
The money will go to help women in need of help from the Women's Center of Rhode Island. These are women who have taken the difficult and often dangerous step of leaving an abuser and need basic things like shelter, food and clothing.
The Humanists of RI "believe that all people have inherent worth and dignity," according to a release. "The Women's Center of Rhode Island affirms those values when they provide safety, shelter and court advocacy to victims of domestic violence."
The Humanists of RI was formed this past April. The group is "a non-theistic philosophy based on reason and compassion," the release states. The group will demonstrate those beliefs through volunteerism and service.
