Celebrate the Fourth Early Tonight

Several local communities are getting a jump on Fourth of July festivities with fireworks displays tonight.

 

Why wait until tomorrow night to catch a fireworks display?

Johnston may not be participating, but plenty of communities in the area are kicking off July 4th with events tonight.

Here's a handly list of area displays — along with easy-to-follow directions to get there.

Celebration scheduled to begin at 5 pm with fireworks at dark at the Hope-Jackson Fire Station.

To get there from Johnston: Take Scituate Pike (Rt. 12) to Seven Mile Road (past Confreda Farms). Take a left, then a right onto Hope Road. The Hope-Jackson Fire Company is on the left.

Gov. Notte Park is scheduled to host the town's Independence Day event, starting at 6 pm, with fireworks display scheduled for 9 p.m. The food court (provided by several vendors) will be open from 6 to 9 pm, along with musical entertainment by Reminisce. Rain date is Friday, July 6th.

To get there from Johnston: Take I-295 North to Exit 8 A (Rt. 7/North Providence). Gov. Notte Park is about 2 miles ahead on the left.

Fireworks display at 9 p.m. on Mendon Road, across from Cumberland High School.

To get there from Johnston: Take I-295 North to Exit 10 (Rt. 122). Cumberland High School is about a mile ahead.

Performance by Swing City Band scheduled for 7pm, followed by fireworks display promptly at 9pm. Rain date July 5.

To get there for Johnston: Take I-295 North to Exit 9B (Rt. 146 North). Take the Rt. 99 exit, then left at the stop light. Bear right at Cumberland Hill Road, and continue straight past Landmark Medical Center on Cumberland Street. The memorial is at the intersection where Cumberland meets Street and Rathbun Streets.

Fireworks scheduled at dusk (approximately 9 pm) Rain date is July 5. Call 738-2000 for updates. Parking restrictions will be strictly enforced.

To get there from Johnston: Take I-295 to Rt. 37 East (Post Road). Take left onto Airport Road, then right onto Warwick Avenue (Rt. 117). Bear right onto Oakland Beach Road and continue about 2.5 miles to reach the sea wall.

And if you're heading to , the PawSox are scheduled to host a fireworks display after tonight's game against the Rochester Red Wings.
