Panthers Noted in Baseball Season Wrap-Up

The Johnston High School varsity baseball team "ran roughshod" over their Division II opponents, William Dayton of GoLocalProv.com wrote this week.

 

Echoing the sense that many people in Johnston already had about the JHS Panthers baseball squad, GoLocalProv.com sports writer William Dayton suggested that the local team "could be on the way to a dynastic run in Division II" in his Game On column published Wednesday.

Dayton noted that the Panthers, who , "ran roughshod" over their D-II opponents on the way to a two-game rout over Prout at McCoy Stadium.

Johnston outscored the Crusaders, 18-2, and completed the sweep with an offensive charge late in Game 2, scoring six runs in the sixth inning to put the game out of reach.

With James Picchi and Joe Bongiovanni likely to return next year, Dayton said Johnston is a possible candidate for another title run.
