Jr. LL World Series: Johnston Wins, 3-1

The local squad scores two runs in the first inning on sloppy defense by Rosenberg, TX.

Johnston evened up its record with a 3-1 victory over Rosenberg, TX, on August 17 in the Junior Little League World Series in Taylor, MI.

The local squad, now 2-2 in World Series play after an August 16 loss to Tucson, AZ, took advantage of sloppy fielding by Rosenberg in the top of the first inning.

After Zach Coro (single) and Gian Martellini (double) reached base, Joe Bongiovanni's hit led to an error by Texas second baseman Joshua Balba that allowed Coro (1-for-2, 1 run) and Martellini (2-for-3, 1 run) to score.

With the victory, Johnston secured at least third place in the American pool. Tucson is scheduled to play North Canton, OH, on August 18 to determine final placements. A Tucson (2-1) win would earn the West Region champions second place outright and leave Ohio 1-3 for the tournament.

Johnston is also scheduled to play a team from the International pool in a non-tournament game before returning home to Rhode Island early next week.
