Johnston Defeats Canada In Crossover Game

The local Junior Little League team won in a non-tournament contest against Surrey, BC.

It may not exactly be the Boston Bruins winning the Stanley Cup in Vancouver, but another East Coast team defeated a squad from British Columbia, Canada, on Aug. 19, as beat Surrey, BC, in a non-tournament game of the Junior Little League World Series in Taylor, MI.

Manager Ed Bedrosian, during a phone interview, noted that Gian Martellini went 2-for-3 with a home run and pitched five solid innings in the international contest.

Johnston finished third in the American pool and fifth of the 10 teams, which included five international teams.

"It's been a great ride, and everybody's tired," Bedrosian said. "We went 3-2 here — it's more than we could wish for."

Following the team's last month of play — which saw them , , and secure a against the best teams in the U.S. — Bedrosian explained they're all going to get some rest.

"We're going to take at least the next week off, then we'll be planning an event with the kids to celebrate," Bedrosian said.
