Going to Watch the America's Cup Races? Here's What You Need to Know

There are several ways to get to Fort Adams to see the America's Cup World Series races. We've got them all right here.

 

The America's Cup World Series racing began on Wednesday and continues this weekend — but you have to get there first. Here's everything you need to know about parking and getting to the events.

How to get there from Johnston: Take I-295 South to I-95 South, then take Rte. 4 South to Rte. 138 to the Newport Bridge. Take Rte. 138 A to Bellevue Avenue. Police will be on hand to direct traffic toward Fort Adams State Park.

And if you have an EZ-Pass transponder, there's a that allows EZ-Pass customers to drive through without stopping.

About the event: Rhode Island is hosting the sixth and final round of qualifying races in the "World Series" circuit of races. Next year, teams will compete for the Louis Vitton Cup, another preliminary tournament to the America's Cup Finals, to be staged in San Francisco, CA, beginning in September, 2013.

On Thursday, the Oracle Team USA Spithill crew heading into the last three days of competition, benefiting from Emirates Team New Zealand's capsizing during the race.

 The sailing crews, piloting state-of-the-art AC45 wing-sailed catamarans around Narragansett Bay, return to action from 1:45 to 3:45 pm on Saturday and 2:30 to 4 pm on Sunday to wrap up this weekend's racing.

  • The America's Cup Village will be open from 10 am to 7 pm Saturday and Sunday.

  • Parking at Fort Adams is $20 on race days.
  • Remote parking lots are located in Newport, Middletown and at the Pell Bridge Interchange and are $10. Shuttles will be available from these lots during race days and will drop passengers off in downtown Newport. Lots are open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. There will be NO land shuttle service to Fort Adams.
  • Once downtown, visitors can take water transportation to and from There are also water taxi services from Jamestown. Water shuttles are available at Perotti Park Ferry/Harbor Shuttle Docks and are $10 roundtrip for adults and $5 for children 12 and under.
