Sports Brief: Cougars Lead D-III Final Series With 3-0 Win Over Mt. Hope

The Johnston-North Providence co-op hockey team scores two goals in under a minute in the second period.

In Game 1 of the Division III boys' hockey state championship finals on March 17, the -North Providence Cougars defeated the Mt. Hope Huskies, 3-0, at Schneider Arena in Providence.

The Cougars scored two goals within 46 seconds during the second period and capped off the scoring with another goal in the third.

Senior forward Daniel Evans tallied the first goal with 3:42 to go in the second stanza, with senior John Sarah potting a second at 2:54 to go.

Junior forward John Rappa knocked in a rebound with 7:33 left in the game to secure the win.

JNP and Mt. Hope finished 1-2 in Division III during the regular season, making the finals a contest between the top two seeds. The Cougars defeated Cranston High School East, and the Huskies beat East Providence High School, to advance to the final round.
