Whiz Kids: The Gentlemen
Each week, JohnstonPatch features one of our town's great kids — this week, we give the third-place finishers of the 2011 JHS Battle of the Bands a well-deserved encore.
Names: Rob Bishop, Kody Fraser, Bryan Kolodziejczak, and Avery Broccoli, members of The Gentlemen, students at Johnston High School, and performers in the Johnston Drama and Performing Arts (J-DAPA) troupe.
Accomplishment: The group took third-place honors at the recent Johnston High School 2011 Battle of the Bands.
Key To Awesomness: Infectious energy and a killer groove. Tackling a cover of Jet's "Are You Gonna Be My Girl?" was an ambitious undertaking, given the song's staccato guitar and drum beat — but the J-DAPA vets took the challenge and delivered a crowd-pleasing rendition — especially Broccoli's fiery guitar solo to close out the tune.

Their performance secured third place in the recent , making them the top "home team" band behind out-of-towners Absence of Despair, from Providence, and winners She Said That, from Warwick.
