Three Local Organizations Get Champlin Grants

Johnston High School, Marian J. Mohr Library, and the Johnston Historical Society received grants totaling $101,430.

The Champlin Foundations recently announced their 2011 grant recipients, and Johnston applicants received a total of $101,430.

The group provided nearly $19 million in grants to organizations across Rhode Island, focusing on equipment, construction, renovations, the purchase of real property and reduction of mortgage indebtedness for the state's tax-exempt organizations.

Johnston High School's award of more than $83,000 was first announced at the . According to the Champlin Foundations press release, the high school will use the money to purchase a MimioTeach system, which projects interactive lesson plans onto a whiteboard in the classroom.

was the recipient of $15,000 for the purchase of lockable shelves and new display cases.

Champlin also provided $3,700 to the for clean-up and preservation of Belknap Schoolhouse and the Museum Barn, as well as installation of new security systems. []

The grants were handed out in December, with Champlin donating 11 percent more to community organizations statewide in 2011 than the previous year.

Champlin is now accepting grant requests for 2012 and will be taking applications between March 1 and April 30. Instructions on how to apply can be found on their website at http://www.champlinfoundations.org/.
