Sports Preview: JHS vs. Chariho Football

The Panthers host the Chariho Regional High School Chargers today at 1:30 p.m. in the annual Homecoming game.

Today's scheduled football game between Johnston and Chariho Regional High Schools is important to the Panthers for two reasons —  first, it's the annual Homecoming match-up; and second, it could have future Division II-A playoff implications, as Johnston and Chariho both have only one division loss heading into the contest.

Chariho (4-1) is fresh off a 40-22 victory in Middletown on Oct. 7, while Johnston (3-1) is back in action after a bye week following a loss in a at Central High School, 42-36, on Sept. 30.

Junior quarterback Steve Simone and the three-headed monster of juniors Evan Hopson, Joe Santilli, and Phil Ndifon have all contributed to a balanced offensive attack for Johnston, which has racked up 130 points to their opponents' 69 over four games.
