Johnston Student Reaches 1,000 Points For Career At Bay View

Senior guard Rachel Battista of Johnston scored her 1,000th career point on a free-throw in the first half of the Division I State basketball playoffs against Portsmouth High School on Feb. 29.
Battista ended the game with seven points on two shots from the floor, a three-pointer, and a 2-for-2 performance from the foul line as the Bengals defeated Portsmouth, 76-40, the Providence Journal reported.

Bay View then went on to defeat North Kingstown, 44-27, on Mar. 4, and is scheduled to play in tonght's D-I semifinals against Exeter-West Greenwich at 8 p.m. at Rhode Island College.
Battista was also named the Providence Journal’s Athlete of the Week on Jan. 9, 2011.
