Johnston Resident Earns CCRI Scholarship

Amanda J. Pontarelli is this year's recipient of the Frank A. Orth Scholarship.

From the Community College of Rhode Island:

The Community College of Rhode Island recently selected Amanda J. Pontarelli of Johnston as the recipient of the 2011 Frank A. Orth Scholarship. This $2,100 scholarship is administered by the CCRI Foundation, a nonprofit that secures external support for the college’s programs and services. It was established to recognize a student in the college’s Business Administration program who will transfer to a four-year institution.

CCRI endowed the scholarship in honor of Frank A. Orth, who helped to establish Rhode Island Junior College in its founding years and played an integral in developing the business program. Orth, who passed away in 2006, served as special assistant to William F. Flanagan, the first president of Rhode Island Junior College. He was a successful businessman in the world of retail management prior to his involvement with CCRI and served as vice president of Cherry and Webb Company. Orth was inducted into the college’s Hall of Fame in 1998 for his contributions to the college.
