Sports Brief: Girls' B-Ball Squad Ends Season With Win, 59-39

The Lady Panthers took both games of a home-at-home against the Quakers.

The varsity girls' basketbal team completed a very successful 2010-11 campaign with a win over Moses Brown, 59-39, on Feb. 25.

It was the final game of a home-at-home against the Quakers, which the Lady Panthers swept to complete the regular season. On Feb. 23, Johnston won its Senior Night contest against Moses Brown, 48-33.

Johnston took the lead early Friday night, establishing a 17-9 margin in the first half, and carried a 34-14 advantage into the break. At one point, Johnston's margin was 27 points, 47-20; the Quakers kept pace in the second half, but couldn't overcome the deficit.

Senior captains Alaina DeNoncour and Megan Macera led the scoring for Johnston, DeNoncour with 27 and Macera with 10.

The Lady Panthers' victory brought their divisional record to 14-4 and overall tally to 16-6, securing second place in Division II North behind Mount St. Charles (15-1 in D-II North, 17-1 overall). Following this weekend's action, the Rhode Island Interscholastic League will release the playoff brackets.
