Middle East Realignment: The Arab Upheaval

H.E. Ambassador Marwan Muasher

Marwan Muasher, vice president for studies at the Carnegie Endowment, will discuss "Middle East Realignment: The Arab Upheaval" in a lecture co-sponsored by the Pell Center and the Newport Council for International Visitors. Muasher has served as foreign minister and deputy prime minister of Jordan, and his career has spanned the areas of diplomacy, development, civil society and communications.

The popular revolts and upheaval of the Arab Spring have radically changed the face of the Middle East. What lies ahead for the Middle East’s transition to democracy? What are the prospects for the governments that have held out in this new order? With many longtime U.S. allies ousted, how will the U.S. recalibrate its relations with the new regimes?
